1981 BMW 635CSi Race Car

Dubbed the ‘Sharknose’ and ‘Bayern-Express’, the BMW 635CSi was designed as a four-seater coupé with a front engine and rear-wheel drive and is widely regarded as the icon of the BMW E24 series. The first ‘Six’ had a production period of over 13 years – 1976 to 1989 – making it BMW’s longest lasting series.

The 635CSi also went racing and many motorsport fans will remember its successes at various 24-hour races including victories in the 1983, 1985 and 1986 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps as part of the European Touring Car Championship (winning the overall championship in 1981, 1983 and 1986).

Description by seller:

The car was built from scratch into a race car by Ace Customs in South Africa. The build was completed in 2019 and has been raced five times since then. The M30b35 motor is fresh with conrods and forged pistons. The cylinder head has been flowed and ported by Van Der Linde developments. 750cc Bosch injectors with the single throttle body. Fully adjustable front uprights and bespoke rear adjustable shocks. Full stainless steel exhaust with custom branch manifold. Original new BMW parts have been used throughout the build. An Accusump has been fitted for added oil pressure safety. Fire extinguisher has been plumbed into the engine bay, boot and interior of the car. Complete Tilton floor-mounted pedal box that is adjustable forward and back. Brake bias and pedal adjustable. Sabelt steering wheel and safety belts, Cobra race seat. I have retained the electric windows, door cards and headlining. The engine produces 200kw and this is managed through a Dicktator engine management system. M3 five-speed gearbox. Stack rev counter with VDO heat, oil pressure and fuel gauges. Alcon front brakes with the standard brakes at the rear. Original fuel tank feeds a surge tank by means of a Bosch fuel pump. BBS 17x 10 inch rims with Bridgestone semi slicks. Lots of spares to go with the sale.

Car has no papers and is not road registered.

This car is available to view by appointment in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
