Sold: 2003 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG

The Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG was launched in 2002 and was the fastest automatic car in the world at that time. Styling changes over the standard SLs included: A different front bumper and grille Redesigned side skirts and rear bumper Quad exit exhaust tips 18-inch multi-spoke wheels The 5.4-litre supercharged V8 powered the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic gearbox. This combination translates to a power output of 493bhp and a top speed limited to 250km/h, although if derestricted it can reach over 300km/h. For a comfortable GT car, it had impressive acceleration too, hitting 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.5 seconds. Performance-tuned suspension and 8-piston front brake callipers meant that this performance was manageable.

The SL55 AMG was known to be a very high specification car with a list of extras included a Bose audio system, bi-xenon headlamps, ventilated sports seats, cruise control and electronic parking assistance by means of the Parktronic system. Along with those, you also got some electronic driver aids to enhance the overall driving experience such as ABS, stability control, body roll control and traction control.
